Accessibility and the Museum – Master’s Thesis for Critical Studies (2023)
Museums have long been criticized for being inaccessible for people who are not white, upper-middle class, able-bodied men. In this thesis I advocate that museums utilize a framework that I call cultural accessibility to make both internal and external changes to become more welcoming to a wider audience. To demonstrate how cultural accessibility can be used, I present a series of case studies of how different museums have tackled barriers to access.
